The best paddling conditions occur in the early morning, before thermal winds typically develop around midday. Summer mornings can be glass-calm, creating perfect mirror reflections of the surrounding bluffs. Spring and fall offer cooler temperatures and fewer boats, though the water remains pleasant through October.
We provide complimentary paddleboard transport for guests, along with boards, paddles, and personal flotation devices. Beginners receive a brief orientation on technique and safety. For those new to the sport, the calm coves near Starkey offer the perfect learning environment—you'll be comfortable standing within minutes.
Experienced paddlers may want to try our touring boards, designed for longer distances and greater stability in light chop. We can also arrange guided paddles to some of the lake's more remote and scenic areas, including waterfall-fed coves accessible only from the water.
