For over seven decades, Opera in the Ozarks has served as both a professional training program for young opera singers and a beloved cultural institution for the region. What began as a summer music camp has evolved into one of the most respected young artist programs in the country.
Each summer, talented young singers from conservatories across America come to Inspiration Point to hone their craft under the guidance of distinguished faculty. The result is a season of performances that rival those of major metropolitan opera houses—at a fraction of the price and with an intimacy impossible to replicate in larger venues.
The opera's home at Inspiration Point is as remarkable as the performances themselves. The 600-seat outdoor amphitheater is carved into a natural hillside, with the stage framed by towering oak trees and the evening sky.
As the sun sets and the performance begins, the natural acoustics of the forested valley carry the singers' voices with remarkable clarity. It's an magical setting where nature and art merge seamlessly.
The opera season runs from late June through mid-July, with performances Thursday through Saturday evenings. Gates open at 6:00 PM for picnicking on the grounds before the 8:00 PM curtain.
Many guests make an evening of it, arriving early with a picnic basket and a bottle of wine to enjoy on the lawn overlooking the valley. The opera's gift shop sells local wines, and the surrounding grounds are perfect for a pre-performance stroll.

Opera in the Ozarks is refreshingly accessible. There's no dress code—while some guests choose to dress up, casual summer attire is perfectly appropriate. Supertitles (English translations projected above the stage) are provided for all performances, making the stories easy to follow regardless of the language being sung.
Each performance lasts approximately two to three hours, including an intermission. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for opera newcomers and aficionados alike.
