The Ozarks hit peak color about a week later than New England and a week earlier than the Smokies — and they do it with fewer tour buses. Eureka Springs in late October is the kind of weekend you build a calendar around.
Peak color in this part of the Ozarks runs roughly October 20 through November 5, weather depending. Earlier if it's been cold and dry, later if it's been warm. Mid-week stays are about half as crowded and twice as photogenic.
The Pig Trail Scenic Byway south of Eureka Springs is the headline ride. The road around Beaver Lake is the quieter alternative. Both top out under 90 minutes round-trip.
